Case Study Analysis Exercise
In the report Talent on the Sidelines (link to pdf below), researchers examine the excellence gap. Based on their review of data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and state assessments, the authors share reasons for its existence and persistence, as well as recommendations for addressing.
After reading the report, what, if any, implicit bias, might you detect from the report regarding students of poverty?
If we deduct that students of poverty are an obstacle to narrowing the excellence gap, how might that impact perpetuate our bias toward them and the support that we provide?
To help frame your discussion, find the resource from the Teaching ToleranceĀ project on testing your hidden bias.
